Life in a Rearview Mirror

Well, I came up hard, and then hit straight down
On the easy streets of a no-man's town
Cold fingers squeezing out last drops of hope
Hanged me tighter than a dead convict's rope
Man, I tried, tried hard to walk a straight line
And every treasure I've found, it was all mine
But every time I walked, the line came up crooked
Hitch-hiking down this highway at night sure is spooky
She hit me hard, headlights and all
And I went down, down I went and I rolled
And the muddy waters, they've checked out clear
Like my life in her rearview mirror
Then I lost my patience, and I tried to move on
Tore down the walls that I've built on my own
Dust and bones, bare souls on the ground at our feet
Highway signs to a place where we're gonna meet
She hit me hard, headlights and all
And I went down, down I went and I rolled
And the muddy waters, they've checked out clear
Like my life in her rearview mirror
Solo
She hit me hard, headlights and all
And I went down, down I went and I rolled
And the muddy waters, they've checked out clear
Like my life in her rearview mirror
Now I'm hanging where seven roads weave and cross
And winds came up dancing, I forgot who I was
Your hair and smile... brown eyes shining bright
Little magic I need on these crossroads tonight
Northern Star, Southern Cross, you were there
I went down, down I went, I was no longer scared
And then muddy waters, they've checked out clear
Like my life, in your rearview mirror...
